Interview Question :: Should I learn MySql under Windows or Linux

I am currently learning SQL Server 2005 but I am also interested to learn mysql with php on my other PC. I know nothing about linux. I am 47 and hope to get a job as system Administrator or DBA next year. Do you guys think that I should learn some linux as well?

RE: Should I learn MySql under Windows or Linux?

Most MySQL/PHP setups are run on Linux, which typically would be a more stable and cost effective platform. So I would suggest learning Linux. The available tools for MySQL db administration and using Linux in general has become considerably more 'user-friendly' than when I first started doing anything with MySQL.

Given that you are also asking about learning Linux, I'd say you should learn MYSQL under the OS you are most familiar with (Windows?)

In answer to your second question, Yes you should also learn about Linux. It's free and will run on low-end, commodity hardware.

Good Luck in your learning endeavours. Never stop learning!

Yes. Many companies work with both platforms, so the more you know, the better, specially if you want to be a DBA.
