Interview Question in Backup and Recovery

Interview Question :: Any database admins out there

My local college has whats known as a career studies certificate that will train me to work with SQL/MSSQL as well as all the concepts of databases such as backup, efficiency, etc.

My question: is it possible to obtain a job like this with a career studies certificate?
I'd like to get the certificate.. become a junior database admin.. ALL WHILE working on my Bachelors. Once I get my bachelors, i figure I will have enough experience to become a senior database admin.

Database admins.. any flaws with quest? Anything you'd recommend?

Formal training in that field is good, but on-the-job training is most important long-term for your career. At school, learn about what makes a DB relational, normal form, types of queries, database storage and optimization. Then, in the real world you learn how to apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Whether or not you get a job depends on more than a certificate. Try to read up on database techniques, try some stuff at home. If you use Microsoft SQL Server, there are lots of videos and tutorials on-line.

Enjoy.

I'm not a database admin, but I'm a network admin. If you know people already in the field and can get a leg in the door and/or just get lucky somewhere, it's worth a shot. The important thing for any computer field though, is when you are in college, DEFINITELY take advantage of any tech related job/internship regardless of the pay so you can get that experience. If you graduate with zero experience, it can be hard to get a decent paying job when you are done.

possible

of course, a cs degree would be better.

take whatever db classes you can, even if they're community college.

mssql isn't so hot. learn mysql and oracle.

if ms is all they teach, okay, its pretty transferable.
