Hi there, I am having problems installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service pack 2. The only setup file that SQL Server let's me run is the x86. It doesn't let me install Itanium and it doesn't let me install x64.
So, I am trying to install x86 and the install program runs, then I click Install, it installs the SQL Server native client just fine, but when it starts installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup Support Files, progresses for a while and then it stops and an error appears telling me: Error 1603 Installing Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Setup Support Files. See Log File for details..
I checked the log file and this is what the log file says:
Error String : The installer has encountered an unexpected error. The error code is 2908. Could not register component {1F3316BE-825B-4390-A9D2-AF3EECCAE9F6}.
Error Number : 2908
I don't know how to solve this problem. Does anyone know what to do? I really want to install SQL

Alright; here is my problem. I recently bought ACT 2006 and tried to install. I had no such luck. I keep getting an error message that says need to unistall an ACT7 instance of Microsoft SQL server 2000. Now, I looked at downloading a service pack for the server, but I don't know what server I have. I would guess the 2000 edition. I am running Windows XP office edition and it is on a fairly new laptop. Can anybody help me. If I knew what server I have I could get the updates for it and from what I have read on other forums, that should fix the problem.

1 start button >all program>microsoftsqlserver server network utility
2 you will find in lift side of windows disable and in right side enable
3 just move TCP/IP to right side by click on TCP/IP and enable
4 in client use steep 1 but open Clint network utility

I'm setting up a SQL server with VS on it (for SSIS) and want to install latest service packs.
I assume I need to install both SQL SP2 and VS SP1 but the boss seems to think there should be only one service pack for this configuration - hmmm, I'm thinking NO just let me get on with it!
Any recommendation on which SP to install first?
