SQL Server Jobs Interview Questions
Hi all,
Im getting really worried about what to do with my life.
I was planning on studying for the A+ Network plus Server plus and then then proceeed and do either MCSE or CCNA but after further research I have found out that other people have done all these It courses and are struggling to get a job.

I really want to study and get a better job but I cant afford to financially as Im on a low income and dont qualify for any kind o f financial aid due to my circumstances.

I had wanted to do technical it subjects as I can do self study since Im good at stuff like that.

What I want to know is are there better prospects studying SQL or can anyone reccomend a line of self study courses with good career prosects.

Hai guys,
I'm a b.com graduate from kerala univ. and came here on New Delhi last year. I did Diploma in software tech from SISI, new delhi and currently doing MBA(IT) with Sikkim Manipal Univ.

I have also a look at a job here on west/south delhi. But i didn't get one till today. I have attended 33 interviews, but failed. It seems that MBA(IT) is the problem. As a South Indian I never thought that higher education is a barrier in north india for getting a job for freshers.

I have a good platform in ASP, C, C++, Html and servers like oracle, sql etc. Ih've a typing speed of 50 words/min, but don't have any experience. Basically i'm a b.com as well(Accounts)

Then have your say, what is the extra qualification required to get a job here on new delhi for back office process. Hope somebody would respond with a serious eye.
I have more than four years of experience in C#, ASP.NET, XML wbeservices, MS Sql Server.
Recently I was given an assignment to develop code in C++ to automate some administrative tasks. The job was advertised as a Unix development position and an Oracle back end. Come to find out that they expected me to develop a develop the application for cross platform execution for Windows XP with a SQL server back end.

As if that wasn't bad enough, they expected me to do this using only ISO Standard C++ with a Gnu compiler and an old Vis. C++ compiler with no documentation. No DB libraries (AFAIK), no cross-platform libs, nothing. Not only that, but they had no requirements docs & no plan.

I had suggested doing the project in Python, but it was dismissed as he had no Python programmers to maintain it.

They wanted me to design and implement the system, but they did not want give me written requirements or the leeway to use tools of my choosing. And they wanted it in 3 to 5 months.

So the question is, was this as impossible a task as I thought it was?
I am working as a Software Engineer from last 5 years, in VB SQL Server. Currently I am working in ASP .Net (C#) from last one year. I want to switch to SAP. What are the prospects for me in SAP. Following are my main concerns

1. Will I get a job in SAP (as I don't have any experience in SAP)?
2. Where and how I will learn SAP?
3. Do have to resign from my current organization for SAP training.(Is it a full time training or can it be done part time also)?
4. What could be the salary band I can get after completing SAP training? (It should not be lesser than my current package obviously)

Looking forward to get your valuable advise. Please help!

I am 28, an industrial engineer by training, and I have work experience in production/ inventory planning & control, and also supply chain. But I have been taking IT courses for about 2 years, and now also doing my further study in IT, because I want to switch to IT. I have learned few programming languages before, such as Java, C++, SQL Server, VB.NET, etc., but since I never use it in workplace I forgot them (though I can refresh my memory by re-learning). Now I am learning C#. I feel my programming background is still not enough for a professional job. What programs I need to understand (especially widely-demanded ones), and what is the effective way to learn?
I asked this in another section too.

Come to find out that they expected me to develop the application for cross platform execution for Windows XP with a SQL server back end.

How hard would it be to learn how to be a database programmer on my own?
I am pretty computer saavy and pretty intelligent.
I know I can get MySQL and SQL Server for free.
What other programs would I need and need to learn?
How long might it take me to learn the programming. Would I have to learn a programming language like C++ or Java on top of MySQL? I am looking to change careers and may have time to devote full time for a few months to learning this.
I hope I am stating things correctly, if not please correct me.
If I had the capability and was disciplined, could I learn it enough to get a job in it?
Also, what kind of pay might I expect?
Any other pertinent info you can provide that I have not thought of would be helpful.
I was at an IT job interview, and the interviewers kept asking me "experience questions". They didn't depart from questions about experience. They did not ask any other kind of questions.

Well, what left me feeling ridiculed were:
1) Interviewer: Do you have experience in this and that?
Me: Yes, I have use that skill in such and such project in my previous job.
Interviewer: HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU'VE DONE THAT?
Me: Well, it was probably two years ago.
Interviewer: We're looking for someone who has done it RECENT.
(It turns out that having experience alone was not good enough. It had to be a RECENT EXPERIENCE.)

2) They asked my if I have database administrator experience in Oracle and SQL Server, but I could see that such experience was not needed based what they said during the later part of the interview. After all, I was interviewing for a helpdesk position.

What I want to pass on to others is this. To reiterate, having experience alone is not enough.

I'm 25 years old and have loved computers my whole life. So naturally I now work in an IT dept. I am a Technology Analyst. I have about a year and a half of Desktop troubleshooting, Server issues, Telephony issues and minor software support expirience. My director has 20+ years of IT expirience and he is showing all he knows...all hands on. Now I am assisting in small projects like printer problems or network issues and Im also doing major projects. Including Complete replacement of and sql_server(I assisted)...Now with all the expirience im getting...Is the fact that I did not go to school going to hurt me? If I need to get another job?
I'm looking for some advice as to how to progress my career in software development. My backgound is that I completed a degree in Business and IT around 4 years back. I had a university placement job that I returned to after my degree where I was in data production. My main duties were automating data processing tasks in SQL server and MS Access and I was never given to oportunity to move into development, although that was the direction i wanted to take. I also have a couple of years experience in building systems in Access using VBA. The systems were both accounting systems and as a VBA developer my job was to design, build and maintain systems from scratch.

I also have a little experience using VB.NET from my previous job and have been doing a lot of studying in my spare time around the areas of VB.NET, systems design and object orientation.

Moving into .NET represents going into "proper" dev for me and I feel I have a good foundation to build on, where should i go from here?
