I'm in a A.S. degree program for Networking. I have some electives to take: either SQL 2000 Administration or Intro to Network Security (Security+). To the IT pros out there, which do you think will be better knowledge for me for my career? Thanks to all who can help.

I kind of prefer SQL Server 2005 but I was told that employers rarely hire DBAs without any experience beside lab experience. So should I concentrate more on Windows System Administration? Will have more chances to get into the field that way? Thx.

Whats the difference between these?

In my opinion they are two different things. One is database related and the other operating system. Depending on your skill level, interest and background you will be able to determine which one is easier. If you have some knowledge of Unix you might be able to quickly pickup Linux and may in fact enjoy the user friendly interface that Linux offers. As far as any dba administration, if you want to manage backend operations for a SQL box you need to also understand what role the database actually plays to add value to the process. Hope this helps.

I've 7 yrs experience in SQL database administration and looking for job as trainee in computer institute. I have experience in SQl 2000/20005 and 2008. Also aware of 3rd party tools that work in conjunction with SQL database. I would like to work part time as a trainer in some institute.
