Thanks a lot people!!!

I am trying to figure out the simplest way to count the # of times a user ID appears in a column. FYI the user ID is defined as char not numeric

I have a query that tells me what users are accessing tables in our data warehouse directly rather than via the table view which violates our policy for queries run in production and I see the same user ID many times. My problem is that this query returns 700 rows so that is way to many to sift through manually. I need to narrow it down so that I only see each user once and how many times their ID appeared in the column.
I've been given a schema for an OLTP SQL database from which I've to make the Star Schemat. I'm confused at extracting the Dimension tables, specially "Time Dimension". The Fact table has to be "Inventory_Fact".
Requirements are:
1.Name or Ids of suppliers whose orders are delayed and those whose orders are delivered in time
2.Avg. delay in number of days in shipment of orders by the company to the customer
3.Avg discards in orders by the customer
4.Avg. discards in orders supplied by the supplier to the company
5.No. of units currently in stock
6.Tot no. of orders ordered by customers against a certain time period
7.Tot. sale made by the company in a given time period against one or more products
8.Tot no. of orders placed by customers to the company
9.Which product is sold in certain region in certain time period?
10.Tot. prods ordered to company by customers
11.Tot. cost of products after shipment.
12.Profit or money gained against certain orders in specific time period
I am a beginner in the world of software with about 1 year exp. I have enough to start with in .NET and SQL Server, almost equal in both.

1. Can anyone who is already in those fields tell me which way to go (and why)

2. If money is my criteria, thaen which route to take?

3. Which of the above two will be more interesting if a long career is the criteria.

Thank you in advance.
