i have a hosting account which hosts a couple of my sites. Now i have contracted a new site project to a programmer.
I want to give him access to the control panel so that he can manage the site completely(setup database, mail etc) without letting him on any of the info on my other two sites. For my current hosting account it means providing him with
my hosting account administrative login, that means he has access to other sites too.
The other option is providing him only a ftp account to upload files only to the particular directory for that project. But the problem with this is that then he cannot setup a database etc. on his own, he needs to provide me sql script which i then use to create the database from the control panel.
Can a reseller hosting account solve my problem..... seperate control panel (administrate all things like databse, mail, password protecting files) for each site?
Any other suggestions, this is the first time i bought hosting.
Any reading material(books or online) to get familiar with each aspect of running and managing a website(mailservers, security, dns for site, backups etc. etc.)?
Please help.

I have a 40 GB Primary Hard Disk and recently got 160 GB SATA secondary Hard Disk, problem with the primary hard disk is,because of low space and I am learning programming so I need compilers including Visual Studio and SQL Server plus I have Linux alongside Windows,my system has slowed down considerably and is going haywire, there is only 4 GB left in my primary hard disk...I have 1 GB RAM so problem doesn't lie there,it's the hard disk.I want to know how I can uninstall Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS and reinstall it on the Secondary Drive using Wubi(Install within Windows)option without affecting my Windows XP that is.I also wanted to know in case the Primary HDD crashes because it has windows installed on it,does it affect the secondary HDD as someone was telling me secondary is good for backups as all the files placed in the secondary HDD remain intact even if the Primary HDD crashes and once Windows is reinstalled you can get all the data back from the Secondary memory. This is important,my system is going nuts so please do help me and tell me how to uninstall Ubuntu Linux from Primary HDD and reinstall it in the secondary HDD.

I have to set up an automatic backup of my server's hard drive onto an external HD. There are some files that I am unable to copy because they are being used by the SQL Server.
I need to run NET STOP MSSQLSERVER at the end of the working day, make the full backup of my hard drive and then run NET START MSSQLSERVER the next morning.
How can I do it???

My local college has whats known as a career studies certificate that will train me to work with SQL/MSSQL as well as all the concepts of databases such as backup, efficiency, etc.
My question: is it possible to obtain a job like this with a career studies certificate?
I'd like to get the certificate.. become a junior database admin.. ALL WHILE working on my Bachelors. Once I get my bachelors, i figure I will have enough experience to become a senior database admin.
Database admins.. any flaws with quest? Anything you'd recommend?

I did a full backup on my old host which stored all my html and mysql documents. The mysql files are stored as .sql files. On the new host, in the backup section of cpanel it has a spot to upload databases. I keep trying to upload these .sql files and it says "Restoring database" after it uploads and that's it.
I reload my cpanel page and it never shows the databases I uploaded. Then I figured i might have to manually create the databases and THEN upload them, but it never uploads them. The database always appears as empty.
The sql files are not empty. Any ideas?

Hi, I always backup MySQL to my PC, what program do I use to read the SQL file? Yes I know of Notpad, but that's all imcrpted, and Wordpad works just fine, but when I do CTRL A CTRL F it crashes.
So is there a SQL program out there that reads SQL files correctly?
Thank you.

My direct boss, who has others above them, somewhat freaked out yesterday when they noticed I could access any drive, directory, file and email box on the company domain. I was showing them a demo as they were asking about obtaining information for possible legal matters. The conversation then went into me trying to explain why I had these abilities (they started conversation, not me), with a breakdown on admin, domain admin and enterprise admin privs.
I felt it was a discredit to my integrity, explaining that all admins have these rights and it's part of how they do their job. They were worried about financial files, president/VP data, their data, etc. Wasn't the answer they were looking for, and it made me feel like my new job was in jeopordy.
I am the sole admin for about 80 users, and growing. I deal with remote users; everything from file/directory access permissions, to managing users/pc's, backup, sql, etc.
How do I explain my job without losing my job?

I am copying a large file (8G..mysql backup.sql) to my USB disk (I also tried copy it to another machine). But it always give me an error when it copies about 4G files. It seems that suse linux can not handle files bigger than 4G. Are there any solutions or workaround?

I have some sql files saved as backup on my pc from a website i was building. I now need to extract some of the data from them to put into a new website.
All of the stuff I can see available is designed to work on these files directly online on a server. I've tried opening them in MS Access but it doesn't recognise the format.
Thanks
